The 1960s and ‘70s saw many Hollywood movie stars, rockstars and artists alike walk through the doors of our Jermyn Street flagship store. Inked into one of our bespoke archive books was a request from a certain Sir Mick Jagger, specifically for silk shirts.
The new collection introduces five impeccably crafted silk shirts, four of which made in a new sand-washed quality known as ‘peace silk’. Named to acknowledge the ethical process of letting the silkworm leave its cocoon naturally, it adheres to the environmental and social standards implemented when sourcing this particular fibre.
The cloth has a rich weight, is soft to the touch and enters our cloth range a step higher than our Sea Island Cotton qualities, which is one of the most exclusive to date. The showstopper of the collection is the printed paisley silk shirt, directly inspired by Jagger. During the creation process, the team stumbled upon an image of him wearing a bold silk shirt from his personal collection, which embodied the personality and patterns of the ‘70s. Printed on a lightweight silk, we designed and created our own limited edition interpretation exclusively for the collection.
The photoshoot was inspired by performers and specifically the moments backstage before the show begins. The images, taken by Rick Pushinsky and styled by David Nolan, showcase the craftsmanship of the shirts, and the drape and beauty of such a fine cloth that can be worn for any special event—a standout choice for evening wear. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes images below.
