The Rockland shirt may be a brand new piece for Turnbull & Asser but it is based on an archive design. Dubbed Garment 57, the original shirt was returned to the company, along with several other prized possessions, for safekeeping after the death of its owner, a World War II pilot. The Rockland is a luxury interpretation of beach shirt and is thus essential holiday attire. Construction-wise, this is a contemporary take on the traditional Oxford shirt and uses an indigo cotton cloth that will wash down to a beautiful distressed patina over time.
T&A shirts are handmade in our Gloucester factory, using hand-worked sewing machines operated by seamstresses with a wealth of experience. The patterns are cut from the highest quality cotton, with the separate pieces expertly brought together to create the final design. We finish the shirt with ethically sourced mother-of-pearl buttons, which are thermally fused to ensure they never loosen with wear; two branded collar stays are then placed into the collar for aesthetic and functional precision.
